“Somebody Else’s Problem: Consumerism, Sustainability and Design”, presented by the author Robert Croker, DPhil (oxon).
“Somebody Else’s Problem” calls for a radical change in how we design, make and use the products and services we need.
Rejecting the idea that individuals alone are responsible for the environmental problems we face, and also the idea that technological innovation on its own can save us, the book challenges us to look again at the systems, norms and values we now take for granted in daily life.
In his talk, Robert Croker will challenge many of the assumptions we hold about how our environmental problems might be best solved. This will be an insightful discussion for students, designers and anyone concerned about the cumulative effect consumerism has on our ongoing environmental crisis.
Robert Croker DPhil (oxon) teaches the history and theory of design and design for Sustainability in the School of Art, Architecture and Design at the University of South Australia. His research focuses broadly on consumption, sustainability and design.
